Which starter motor?

Hello everyone,

I'd really appreicate a bit of help from those in the know!

So, after a bit of welding and painting the time has come to get the van back on the road...except the starter motor is dead!

Think it's the solenoid so first question - can you just replace this?

If not, it's a new motor (or p/x i guess), anyone suggest a good source?

Last q (promise) - I have a petrol golf engine (1.8 gti PB) but the old 1.7 diesel starter and g/b, does anyone know if I can fit a petrol starter motor as replacement, to save a bit of money?

Take your starter into the shop that sells starters and alternators and they will replace like for like
I have a fella by me that does this
Im sure you would too. Try yellow pages for starter and alternator repair/exchange

Sorted now, I actually got a re-manufactured one on exchange for £60! Seems like a bargain to me, it came from SMC in poole if anyone else needs one.
