Hi, I was having a look at engine, noticed that the previous owner had put a sponge in the the tube to block it.
I take it I am missing some sort of tube to connect both holes up? BTW it is a 1.9dg watercooled engine and looks like it leads to the vent at the rear end

Also is there a bung of some sort missing from the clutch bell housing area.

Ok, 1st photo shows the air pre-heater, something that takes heat from the downpipe from #1 pot and heats up the air going into the carb, this is totally unneccesary in the UK and as such often taken out or just has the ducting missing as your's does. Leave it as it is
No.2 shows the access to the back of the flywheel, these should have a black bung in them but they are normally missing anyway, just remember NOT to stick your fingers in there when it's running or it'll sand the fingernails down for you . More worrying is the fact it looks like there's been oil coming out of there which is 99% certainly a sign that the front crankshaft oil seal is/has been leaking .... possibly as a result of some muppetry putting semi-synthetic oil in ?

Thanks Ian for your detailed response. Engine should probably have its oil changed. The push rods need done, maybe this is related? I heard replacing pushrods is a messy but easy job, but I am not sure if I would want to tackle that on my own.
I will see if I can find a bung to keep my fingers out of there lol.

It does leak when running, and was told it was rods. I am not mechanically minded yet lol. Took a pic of where oil was leaking from.

That's a pushrod tube there BUT do an oil change put 15/40w MINERAL oil in and then see what's leaking from where. If some cretin's put semi-synthetic in it just pi$$es out.
