That reg makes it a bit of an oddity ...smacks of a "cock"-up with DVLA. The VIN would identify the year of manufacture. It's got a lot of potential (says the man with aircon spares  ) to make a very nice daily driver before someone wades in and spoils it by camperizing it.
If it's still around when Whitey's sold I could be tempted...no no no must stop
#phew!# it's a lefty, so not one for me anyway.

I dont know if you have imported any foreign vehicles but i cant ever fault em. They go by paperwork as presented and by looks of it they have this time, if polish paperwork is wrong than its not DVLAs "cock" up. Could be a late/unregistered van that was genuinally registered in 1995 or was a typo by the Poles.

"It has a Polish VIN which shows 1st reg in poland as 1995 so DVLA have given it an M reg"

DVLA dont actually check the year aginst VIN , if there is any dispute it is up to the registering person/owner to provide evidence. Department at Milton Keynes or wolfsburg museum will relieve you of money to do this! :ok

thought it was relatively common on imports?

The date of 1995 refers to the date in which it was first regiseted in Poland and bears no relation to the date it was first registered. The Polish system does not cater for pre registered vehicles imported from another country. So what year was it manufactured? The VIN will tell

Ah. It's a distinction that I hadn't appreciated before. Never imported a vehicle, don't intend to either.
I wonder how old that bus really is then...?

That vans come from Poland, and showing an M reg, model year of 1995.
Were vans made that late?
Out-rigger VIN number Identification and HPI check are a must
When buying.
Does anyone Know If HPI covers you for buying in Europe?
If so, I think they offer a service where they guarantee your purchase
if you have visually checked the motors Vin code.

Many tales of woe

Hi y'all, i,ll try to clear up the reg issue as much as I can. I saw it while i was in Poland , with a for sale sticker on it. Spoke to owner - bit of communication difficulty as he didn't speak english & my polish is very basic. It has a polish ID plate where the vin should be. There was a polish registration document showing van was imported & registered in poland in 1995. The seller said it was a 1990. Seemed ok to me , maybe i am a bit naive , imported it , took doc's to dvla, i cant find any other id on the van, dvla offered a q plate or 1995 reg, this seemed the best option. So , i'ts registered by the dvla for use in the uk. I can't add much more than that. I know a transmission engineer who has heard the noise under load (prop shaft off) & reckoned it's an easy fix. I guess you guys know better, all i know is he does it for a living & has successfully built vw boxes including a syncro. Since I advertised it i have spoken to some syncro owners & realise the complexity of the work involved & potential expense, it's beyond my reach financially & from a time point of view, so i am still selling it at a reduced price as I am getting a doka. My description on e-bay is as honest as i can get & thanks to syncropaddy for pointing out my wheels "cock"-up. Live & learn.

What chap further up said , VIN number on O/S chassis leg.
Find outrigger that goes from main chassis rail out towards front O/S jacking point. On the back face(side facing engine) should be the VIN number stamped into metalwork-might have to scrape it a bit. Also metal plate riveted in N/S seat box would give bit of a clue. Look behind glovebox area for papersticker on front end strengthening bar or on A pillars (depends on who was on sticker duty the day it was made).
Chatting to somone in Germany yesterday and they point blank refuse to buy syncros from anywhere east of germany for a few reasons.
