quick question, can psuh rod tube seals on a watercooled 1.9 1985 be changed as easy as on 1980 Aircooled van?
Martin kindly changed the ones on our Aircooled van on a campsite in cornwall just lying under the van and wondered if it same kinda job for the watercooled engines please?
thanks
katie

Re: push rod tube seals
Yes and no ... yes they can easily be changed BUT you have to either take the head off or (and this is the sensible approach) buy a telescopic pushrod tube and seals.

Re: push rod tube seals
As Ian says and remember that price is per tube so if all 8 need doing its costly...
Head off could cause a lot more issues.. (I seem to remember this engine had a head job not that long ago??)

Re: push rod tube seals
Did one tube fairly easy with a telescopic tube . Procedure in Haynes. Was told once that due to corrosion if the correct VW antifreeze had not been used could open up a can of worms if you take the head off..

Must admit Ian, at that price I'd be chatting to all the local engineers round here to make me a full set. Would still be cheaper than one side I'll wager. They're sure not rocket science in construction.

With respect Katie asked
and I replied with a link to the required product and in answer to her PM I told her the proceedure. I'm quite sure it would cost more than £31.25 to start tooling up to manufacture a telescopic tube.can psuh rod tube seals on a watercooled 1.9 1985 be changed as easy as on 1980 Aircooled van?
