Wheel arch Chewing gum

Post by Cyrus »

Hi everyone.
Yeh I`m a NoOb!

Been studying the wiki pages and got lots of great info.

What I relly want to know is;

Is there an easy way to remove the Chewing gum insulation from under the rear wheel arches?

I`ve done one side but need to fit a new one on offside and its taking ages to find any metal.

Lol
Yeh there's definitely some metal there and loads of rubber insulation.
I'm removing it using an angle grinder (probably not the best way to do it)

Ah, there lays the epitaph......removing filler.......Welcome to the glorious world of .......endless pit, coffee, welding, beer, scraping, tea, a bit more scraping, and maybe a camp somewhere, search for parts, coffee, ..........you get the picture, you certainly get the bug, and if your lucky, you get to keep the wife..........

hi all,

I have done all 4 of my wheel arches and the best method I have found is similar to metalmick8y use a blow torch to soften the sealant but not enough to catch it fire' when you have done it for a few times you will know exactly how much heat to use the sealant is as easy to remove as removing removing old paint from a door with a blow torch, if you intend to weld the arches then anything combustible will have to be removed any way and Im sure we have all caught things on fire welding, just have a garden hose handy as if heated to much it wll catch and sticks to skin when melting. good luck
