Welding/brazing/extending dipsticks

Post by vwstanley66 »

Having fitted a car engine to my van I need to extend the dipstick to get an oil reading. I found out yesterday that welding dipsticks doesnt work.
Does anyone know if brass brazing would be any better?
If not where can i get tiny rivets?
regards

I can't think of any reason why brazing wont work...so long as you braze the extension piece to the top of the old dipstick (not much flex encountered at top of stick), using a healthy overlap.

eyup duck,no need to go to such severe practices,i simply shortened the dipstick tube by 130mm i think so that the car dipstick just touches the sump and then i marked the dipstick with the correct oil in...regards
