coolant red indicator light

Post by Bilko »

Hi
I have a 1986 VW T25 syncro, the red coolant level indicator light on the dash keeps flashing for a couple of minutes whilst the temp gauge needle goes beyond the halfway mark then the light goes out and the needle drops back to normal, this happens sporadically
Can anyone please give me an indication as to what this could be as I have recently had a new engine fitted and am worried that this may damage the engine ?
Thanks
Duncan

? air in cooling system still, airlocking
or poor electrical connection at temp sender/level sensor ?
you need to find out what temp it really is at and is it using coolant/expelling coolant

Sounds like air in system, possibly didn't get bled properly when new engine fitted. Bleeding is a bit of a knack - see wiki

Is the coolant tank full to the brim (check when cold)?
