Fuel filter
On my way to an MOT last week and the engine started misfiring badly and the oil light stayed on. Managed to limp home up a steep hill with oil light on and worried to death. Re-checked oil at home ( which had been topped up a few weeks and about 50 miles ago) and was OK. Played about with wires and then it started OK . Went back for successful MOT and was told it was firing on 3 cylinders. Went to come home and symptoms as before. Stopped once and switched it off and then it was OK when I restarted. Had a fuel filter blockage last year and fitted a new filter but checked it again. A tiny piece of leaf was in the nylon pipe entering the filter blocking the fuel flow when demand was high and falling back when I switched off, like a one way valve. Last time it was a curl of paint. I like repairs like that.

Re: Fuel filter
very happy for yew, with your easy fix..... however, it its both worrying and dangerous that you drove despite the oil light being on...... why didnt you stop

Re: Fuel filter
Didn't check oil level as I had topped it up a few weeks ago and it had sat in my drive on tarmac unused ever since while I sorted out some wiring problems for MOT and no sign of an oil leak. Oil light went out on initial starting up in drive and was fine for first half mile (downhill) and only when fuel demand was higher then severe misfiring started and light went out. But admit was a bit puzzled as to why it lit up if the engine was rotating at all. Stopped several times and switched off for a few minutes and each it restarted with no misfiring and the oil lamp went out straight away. So it was a case of balance of probabilities.
Re: Fuel filter
Subject to further road testing it would appear that at the very same time as I had a fuel blockage the oil pressure connection (brown to black) in the engine compartment went on strike hence oil pressure light coming on at the same time. Tricky to diagnose a problem and establish cause and effect when two things go wrong simultaneously.
