Front diff drain and refill?

Post by silverbullet »

Last knockings for the current maintenance session before the old heap is back on the road; figured that I should be kind to the front diff and give it some fresh bath water...
Any toppermost tips (other than warm it up first) like nose up/down to drain fully, easiest refill technique (please don't say drop the diff) ?
I've got the GL4 80W90 ready to pour :ok

i dont think you can drain it fully, i managed to get about 1.25 litres out, and it took, just under 1.5 litres.
But my diff was on the floor, so was able to move it about. Get it done and get to F&G

I can't be ar$ed to drop it. My frozen left shoulder made getting the tank and gearbox back in difficult enough and it's damn cold out. I want the van back together and driving so I can prepare to execute the Sharan
My copy of Bentley is a mis-indexed pdf naughty one so come on chaps, a little help here?

Where did you get the oil from?
I bought the last bottle of the correct stuff from my local branch of GSF, and that was only cause someone had failed to pick it up, they have changed to Carplan stuff now.
