Diesel fuel line leak

Got a leak on the fuel pipe where it re-appears in the rear arch before going into engine bay then filter. Looks like it has rubbed on a factory cable tie.
Should be quite easy to cut and replace the offending item.
But i was wondering is it possible to pull out entire fuel line that runs over top of tank? Or it is secured? If so is there another route people have used or is it possible to pull through a new length next to the existing one?

So it's probably unlikely to pull out, what do you think the chances are of pulling a new one through? Also do you/anyone know the size of the two pipes? Ones the feed and i presume the other one that's attached to it connects to the sender?

Both those pipes are breathers.
Bigger one attaches to the tank just behind the spring hanger. The smaller one attaches to a T pice behind the spring hanger and then to the top of the tank on both sides.

Ahh, thank you, best just to cut them and replace what i can get to then. Don't know the sizes do you?

on a petrol there are 6mm internal bore. mine were very perished when i removed my tank. all nice and new now with new vents.

It's annoying as you can see where they join, just behind the shock tower. Can even touch the fitting, but no way can you change anything back there.
Luckily it all looks pretty dry that far back.
Looks like it is perforated under the cable tie by the shock, as it forms a drip on the end of the tie. So should be able to cut it around there and replace

Definitely fuel? Because the filler box in the corner panel does not have a seperate drain (it uses the clearance between the filler pipe and it's metal conduit in the bodywork) any rain or fuel spills will also wick out through the braiding on both the vent line and the bigger burp hose.
Might be worth a look behind the plastic filler trim, in case there's something else going on (like on mine)

Should have traced the pipes before presuming something. Took off the plastic surround around filler cap, all looks good, Can't even see any rust.
Those pipes aren't even going to be full of fuel. I think maybe the pipes got wet, and with all the grime on them, it looked like fuel. Kinda smells oily rather than diesely.
Time will tell i suppose

Why did VW make that loop across the tank and then back again? they are non return valves after all, interesting I just replaced this lot on my Diesel with a "kit" from Van Cafe ...not recomended, valves were good but the seals were useless and pipes were not the correct size. Excellent customer service though...credit where credits due!

This thread is old but now I am doing the same work. I am going to change the fuel tank straps with a new ones from Syncro Services, and was hard to get the fuel tank out of its place... I broke the two valve floats (neck is too weak and plastic was old), because the tank (being empty) heavy... I have to buy a new set. Also I was asking myself why the hose is so long...

The body has some rust but nothing serious, the serious thing is the bolts that holds the straps are rusty.... now they are no 13mm and no 12mm... maybe 12.5... I asking myself if it's better to cut old bolts and use new inox steel bolts and nuts... dunno if the nuts are captive ones... Any suggestion with this?
