Exhaust manifold rods.

Post by very_bland »

How do all,

2.0l CU

I changed my exhaust today, and found one of the threaded rods that come out of the engine block (onto which you tighten a nut to hold the exhaust on) was missing! The nuts I tightened onto the other rods were 8mm, so I got an 8mm bolt to work in place of the rod and nut where the one rod was missing. Unfortunately the hole was way too wide for an 8mm bolt, but there is still a thread (though it feels only slight) on the inside of the hole in the engine block, so I don't think the threading has been torn! So, are these rods threaded 8mm on the nut end, but a bigger thread where the screw into the engine block? Seems unlikely to me but I'm struggling to come up with another explanation. I can't get any of the other rods out to look at the other end.

I is bamboozled!

I presume that the rods absence will be affecting efficient running (?) so ideally I would like it sorted.

If anybody has any light to shine I would very much appreciate it.

Ta,
Billy
