got to buy 5 new tyres...and convinced myself on the bfg's yet...

you would have to go to 235/75/15 which it the next size up from what you have at the moment (guessing your on 215/75/15bfg mt?) would have thought that you will be ok with the gearing (volvoporter) do you know what gear box you have?

I want some 235 75 15 Recip Trial MUD Terrain or KINGPIN EXTREME MUD TERRAIN for the crack, just to see what they are like. To be honest though for the small amount of off roading I do I find what I have do just fine

The tyres I need are more likely the tread pattern like tractors.
There are a few times a year when I need to work in seas of mud,
and towing stuff around in it too.
In fact I am looking for some 15inch tractor tyres,
not that I could afford them, but thats whats needed.
Wonder if such a thing is available and if they would go on the rims.
Second best would be plain military style pattern..

I used to get part worn military XCL Michelins from http://www.mod-sales.com/ years ago in my Landy series III driving days. Don't know if they'll have anything in a 15" though.
Ran Maxxis on the last Disco we had with not problems from them - good value for money. Had some less agressive 14s on the Carat alloys on the Sycro too, again nothing bad to report.

They have these in 7.50 16 new at £85 each ..quality
Rather liked the armoured vehicle runflats too..
maybe I will be looking for 16s then.
