Campfire music at syncronauts events anyone?

Post by silverbullet »

No, not Kum-by-yah or any of that
What does anyone fell about it? I'm teaching myself to play my mum's old bhodran (not as difficult as I thought it would be; bonus ) but it needs some accompaniment to make a proper session. I'm not a folkie, but I like the music nonetheless. Would make for a bit of atmos after a good day's driving and a barbie?
There must be a few tin whistle/fiddle/guitar/bagpipe/alphorn players amongst our number, add Stout and Whiskey and we're off!

I've heard of people who can get a tune out of anything - that must be you!
Does it take a lot of practice or is it all in the wrist?

god save us from people who think they can play the bodhran..... been to far to many gigs where somebody picks one up and bangs away.

Bring on the AK74. Good for Morris dancers as well

After being brought to numerous ceili's as a youngster (my uncle was one of the senior members in Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann) and considering one of my pet hates is bad trad music followed closely by drummers. You may well end up wearing the bodhran and the cipin placed where the sun doesn't shine. So I suppose that's a big NO from me, besides we will have so much to talk about, brakes, ball joint spacers, styles and colour of syncropaddy's bikini etc that you won't need to play music
