Ok so I have just read all the posts about this and I'm kinda worried.
My oil light has come on dimly and when I rev the engine it gets brighter. On tick over it goes off. THis is the complete oposite of what oil pressure should do as far as my mechanical experiance goes.
I'm gonna take the dash pod apart and clean it up and probably do an oil change.
Oh Yeah it's a 1.9dg.
The reason I am so worried is we're taking the van on our honey moon for 2 weeks next week and up until now the thing has been pretty much good as gold. I also have my MKII golf that seems to about to need an engine change and the mini is in bits!
Why me?

Horney,
Got to get you going for your horneymoon!!!!!!
(Sorry couldn't resist that)
Look here for a good write up on the workings of the oil pressure monitor system, the link is also in the wiki.
Check that 14 pin connector to the flexi printed circuit while you've got the pod out.

Coolio, read th elink and all that makes sense. My light isn't flashing though. Just on dimly and then brightens with revs.
It flashes dim-bright-dim-bright witht he indicators on.
Hopefully this implies a wiring/earthing problem and noting more nasty!

Sorted!
THe battery + had come off and was clearly causing some electrical problems.
When I tried to start it to go home I realised the battery was disconnected. Reconnected and good as gold.
PHEW!
