1984 T25 1.6 D LHD CANT GET 2ND OR 4TH

HI, can someone help, i cant get 2nd or 4th gear on my van it`s got a 4 speed box, it go`s into 1st 3rd and reverse fine but feels as if it`s jamming against something? i`ve just replaced the water pipes under the van and think i may of desterbed something but can`t see anything obvious any ideas?

HI did you take the gear linkage off? It sounds like you dont have the forward throw when the linkage is reattached to the box on the rear side of the gearbox flange.

Did you disturb the pinch bolt/spline behind/above the fuel tank? This will affect the back/forward travel of the gear linkage. You might need to slacken it and push the spline in slightly to shorten the rod length, giving you more "pull" to engage 2 & 4.

If you pulled the rod or forced some thing past it, then it will need resetting.
I undone the bolts holding the linkage put it in 2nd and did the bolts up.. Seemed to work

ok thanks guys im going to have to drop the tank again the weekend and have a go at resetting the linkage by the pinch bolt on the centre of the linkage.

You dont need to drop the tank, splined joint is just behind it, do as said above.^^^
