rotten gutters

Post by MattyG »

Morning All

can anyone give me a bit of advice about replacing sections of gutter please?

the worst bits are above the 2 fornt doors - maybe 2' - 3' on each side in total
I cant find a repair section - is it something that will need to be fabricated?
how would I weld it on as its a very small corner to weld into?
Im new to van welding but Im gonna have a crack at it, been reading lots on here but nothing on gutters so any advice is much appreciated

cheers
matt

Hi mate, I don't think gutters are normally a problem on these vans. Mine were really bad, due to a design flaw with my hitop which made them rust quite badly.
I've just had new gutters made up and welded in. Don't know how the guy did it, but you can't tell. I'm well pleased.

i think the reason mine are shot is the rubber seal from the devon roof is well past its sell by date and the waters just sitting there. did you replace the whole gutter or just sections?

I have similar rust issues with mine, again due to water being trapped by the pop-up roof.
Most of the rust on mine was above the gutter line, so it was relatively easy to make up a patch to fit the hole exactly.

I have one bit of gutter to replace, about 5 inches long and I've been putting it off because its gonna be tricky to bend a piece of metal to the exact same shape as the gutter. When welding it in, you'd have to use a bit of copper held behind the weld to stop it from blowing through at the edge of the gutter. A piece of flattened copper pipe would work.

I had pretty much the whole of 1 side and a good half of the other. Never seen welding like it. There's no way I could have done it myself.
Unfortunately I don't have any photos
