Had to be transported back by the RAC after the syncro Salisbury play day on Saturday. Oil warning light came on complete with buzzer at idling speed. OK once the engine was revved up but then it cut out completly (in the middle of a roundabout). I've changed the oil today and fitted a presure gauge. Idling is about 0.7 bar reving up it goes to 3 or 4+ bar.
Couple of questions:
1 Do these engine have a low oil pressure shut down after the alarm/buzzer?
2 What is the idling pressure of these engines.
3 What pressure does the warning light/buzzer come on
Many Thanks in advance
Peter

Re: 1.6TD Oil Pressure
Hello,
those oil pressure readings look ok to me if the oil is warm - should be higher on idle when cold. The buzzer and light won't switch the engine off if that's what you're asking - it's just a warning mechanism.
The low rpm oil pressure switch is 0.3 bar normally - this will set the light off if ever the oil pressure gets below 0.3 bar - i.e. the switch earths the signal. The high rpm oil pressure switch will earth if the oil pressure is above about 0.8 bar - if the revs are above 2000 rpm and this doesn't earth then the buzzer and the light will go off.
If the buzzer is sounding at idle then I reckon your oil pressure pcb behind the speedo might need looking at. I'd say your oil pressure's ok (assuming those are warm readings).
The oil pressure won't be why you cut out in my opinion - if it were your engine would be knackered. I'd say that was a fuel delivery problem.
Hope you get it sorted - sure some other knowledgeable people will have more accurate figures on oil pressure.
