Wonky Box......
MORE DAFT QUESTIONS, sorry......When i got the Komet he changed gear lovely, i seems now that to get in to first gear i now have to push down on the gear lever like you have to do for reverse, worried gonna slip into reverse instead of first and give some poor soul a heart attack, then after a goos spin in him going from second to third gets sticky, any ideas or is it just me, girlfriend drove him the other day and nearly had a nervous breakdown over it!!! Also a red flashing light over the hazard and fog light buttons on the dash, what's that for????? Komet is a Autohomes from '87.

Re: Wonky Box......
I don't have to, and never have had to. Just a slight shove to the left and backwards into first, but certainly not any downward motionjohnnyvespa wrote:i have a komet and you do have to push down to get first gear
To get reverse it's shove left, then push down, then forward into reverse gear.
besides which, what conversion it is shouldn't affect the gearbox behaviour...........

Re: Wonky Box......
On my dash there is a column of three switches on the RHS; top is Hazards, centre is Heated Rear Window and bottom is Fog Light (rear).
I do have a red indicator at the top of the LHS of the dash, but that only flashes when either the hazards are on or the camper's towbar wiring is connected to a trailer and I use the indicators, so not a VW thing probably. A picture might help (you know my email )

Re: Wonky Box......
From the email.....

Does it flash with just the ignition on but without the engine running?
Heres a pic it's the one on the top right, was thinking it's a imobiliser or fake one, stops when the engine is running!! but flashes every now and again whilst driving.

Re: Wonky Box......
it's aftermarket whatever it is... My guess it's the remains of an alarm system or just a fake with a blinker

Re: Wonky Box......
Thnx for responses, my feeling is it is some sort of alarm/security thing, there is a alarm sensor in the main body of the van!! Not managed to set it off yet so must be defunct, was wanting to put a rear window with a de mister seema like a good place to put the button for it, wat dya think? As for the geAr box mite try and see if there is any fluid in it and take it from there

Re: Wonky Box......
As I said, my heated rear window switch is in that column so yes, ideal.
As far as the gearbox goes, if you have no joy I'd pop a question in the 'Mechanical' forum rather than this one
