Replacing coolant manifold

Post by jswagger »

Hi,

I'm having to replace the coolant manifold on my 1988 1.9DG auto and can't get the big hose (goes off towards radiator) on the bottom off. Anyone got any tips on how to as all the other hoses came and this one is obstructing progress?

Also are there different manifolds for manual and auto? I ask as the manfold (still) on my van has 5 pipes connections but one is in a slightly different place to the replacement from VW heritage. I notice on the bag it came in it states 'manual' so was wondering if I have the wrong one?

Thanks for your help

Have now had another look at the VW Heritage website. They do a manifold with the connections in the same place as the one on the van (251-121-438/B), however it is more expensive. Is it just a case of different hose positions or do the manifolds do different things, as I can make the one I bought (251-121-438) fit with a bit of adjustment?
