bang and smoke!

Hi,
looking for some help. driving along quite nicely in my '82 camper when there was a bang and then some acrid smoke.
pulled over, no flames, fuse box all ok and every thing working apart from the brake lights.

any ideas of A:
what went bang and B:
how do i get the brake lights back???

According to this http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/VehicleSpec ... /fuses.htm your brake lights are on fuse number 8 along with the internal courtesy lights and cigarette lighter. Do the internal lights and ciggie lighter work? If not I'd check the fuse. If it's blown and you replace it only for the replacement to blow too you've got a wiring problem - probably a dead short if 'bang' is anything to go by.

found it!!

the back of the light switch had rotted and broken off and touched the body of the brake cylinder!!

just a new switch needed.

if only it was always that easy.
