Loss of power up hill 1.6D
I know these aren't the best on hills anyway - but recently I am losing nearly all power on hills havng to go down to 1st gear on gentle slopes, Ok on flat but after hill it starts to shudder if I stop and then cut out Any Ideas - I have checked the Oil, Fuel and water it they seem OK.

I have a similar issue with mine, down to 2nd was the worst but that was on a steep incline. Could it be a possible clutch issue?

I think it is something you have to live with I find pulling out the advance and retard lever helps.

It shouldn't be like that, I have the same engine and have to drop to down a gear or two on occasions but it's not shuddering or cutting out. I'd check out / replace the air filter and fuel filters then get the timing checked.

Also check the air inlet tract. The pipe down from the left hand air grille might be broken/collapsed/obstructed.

Thanks all for the advice - Finally sorted it - New Fuel Filter and Glow Plugs - Fuel Filter was half full of sediment and one of the glow plugs had broken. Running like a dream now - Next Task to sort out some warm sunny weather to go away
