Help needed-Gearbox codes!

Post by lipsylou »

Hope I'm in the right place, but I am desperate to get a gearbox for my van before the MOT! After 9 months the bloke finally found a code on the old one. ABD. Do I have to find this exact coded gearbox or can another one do it? Its for an E reg 1.9 4 speed. Have been desperately saving to get one, but can't seem to get the money ot the gearbox at the same time, so am selling my soul on fleabay and should have enough in 2 weeks. Just need to get the right thing now, please help! Getting cabin fever......

Hello,

the ABD is 4-speed so you'll have the linkage and gearlever for a 4-speed so I'd stick to that. Have a look here for example:

http://www.rjes.com/html/gearbox_types.html

and compare the figures for the 4-speed.... e.g. the ABE looks the same, but there's not a lot of choice there for a 4-speed with the same ratios.

Aidan is the guru on gearboxes and will probably have a better suggestion.

Thanks Tinman, I needed the definite code before doing that though.

ABD is the most common 4 speed petrol 1.9 box, easiest to find generally - I have 3 core boxes ABD code in stock, that is boxes with known issues that need rebuilding, but the rebuilt one I have in stock is sold awaiting fitting.

Thanks Aiden, that's helpful to know! I have been offered one and hope it will be right for Bumble. I have to sheepishly admit, that I can't afford one of your reconditioned boxes Don't suppose you wanna buy my old rubbish gearbox that's now in a bucket do you
