Refitting High Top - Front and rear seal advice please

Post by fufflenarnia »

Hi All,

I need to refit my high top on my Autosleeper.

The front and rear has rubber seals which are in a poor state having overspray, silicon, mastic and maybe even chewing gum :? .

The question is what should I use when I refit the top -

Do I need rubber seals at all?
Can I just use a sealant?
How do other makes seal their tops?

Thanks,
Steve

You will find something suitable from seals direct

You can also try C.H.O Baines in kent, they will post and have just about every seal ever produced in stock. You do however have to buy by the meter & I cannot remember the minimum order off hand.

Hi,
Originally the top was/is fixed front and rear with pop rivets thro one leg of a U shaped rubber section, as I'm sure you have discovered.
Seals Direct and Baines have plenty of choice if you wish to repeat this fixing method. However the rivets do rust away in time, again as you have probably found out.
I did not actually remove my high top but after removing rivets, de-rusting etc I then pumped the gap with Tiger Seal. You will then have to repair the rivet holes in the high top lip.
I did want to put a U shaped rubber along the edges cos I thought it would look ok but I didn't want to use pop rivets again and it also limited the amount of adhesive I could use.
If you add your location there maybe a member nearby who could help.

You total star. Downloaded their catalogue and found the Autohomes seal I've been after. Can you get someone near you to pat you on the back. :ok

Autosleeper themselves sell the seal at £3.12/metre + vat.

The best contact is through their website.
