5 speed Shift Guides

Post by pocolow »

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 5 speed Gearlever after having it welded. As you can see the Ally shift guides are worn and these parts are obsolete. I could get away with just replacing one, does anyone have any second hand ones or know of ways to fix/replace these.?

Cheers Mark

Only one seems worn, wouldnt bother me but maybe swop them round as theyre not handed, I removed the bracket that supposedly stops you getting reverse without pushing down and shift is much nicer, your wear looks like a 'tad' out of adjustment.
soon build it up with a bit of weld

Ta Mike, looking at the old lever plate ,both the adjusting bolts are over to the right ...Should the new ones be set in the middle? or is it trial and error?

Do what we did, find an ally welder who can build them up again then just grind back to shape

I'll have a look in the shed tommorow and if as I suspect I have one then I will weld it up and then post of to you,
as for the position well its dependant on the way you have set up the splines etc, I really would remove the bracket that prevents pushiung down and such to get reverse, as you know, when set up correctly the stick will naturally want to be in the 2nd/3rd plane.

Ta Mike ,the bracket that prevents you getting reverse without pushing down actually has tendency to catch the bellows of the detente spring and over time would split them. So I will do as you suggest and remove it.
