Hi I have a 83 1.9dg engine holdsworth, I have owned for 7 years without a problem other than waterlevel goes up and down like a yoyo and lots of bubbles! I tested bubbles to find extream high hydro carbons! So head gasket gone! I've tried the fingers crossed cure of special additives, but no bubbles getting worst! I've coverd 3000milse like this and worrie everytime I go anywhere! I've tried loads of local garages for help but told it will cost at least a grand. I just hope someone on the forum is local to Worcester and can help! I have space on drive and can help as I was a spanner man! Anyone!!
Thanks alex (springs nearly here and I can't go through another year of stress!)

scour the outlets and buy a second hand engine... £250 should get a good one.

Try The Bug Barn near Tewesbury. Easy to find, just Google it or I think their ad is in VW Camper mag.
