Source of parts for 1.6 JX engine rebuild

Post by richard17777 »

Hi,

I have just taken the 1.6TD JX engine out of our van and am sending it off to a local firm (macclesfield) for a rebuild. They seem to be having a problem finding the rings and mainbarings for the job. Does anyone recommend a supplier where I can get all the parts from? It may just be better for me to get them in a bundle and pass to them.

Thanks and regards,

Richard

Sorry Richard but I would be very wary of an engine rebuild company that couldnt source such items,
Have they done one before?

Tony Walsh should be able to supply any parts needed: http://www.vwenginerecon.co.uk/.

I did a GTD motor a cople of years ago and had no problem getting KS shells etc.

Andy

PS. I think I have NOS sets of inlet and exhaust valves, PM if interested.

Hi, thanks for coming back to me - it is croft as it happens. Said that their supplier could find all the parts but the main bearings. little odd but there you go.
Just deciding if i want to do just the head at this point or the whole lot. When we bought it early last year it wasn’t drinking any oil but black smoked like the fuel pump had been turned up. After a trip around Europe it got a bit more thirsty on oil. We are doing her up at the moment and the engine is out – i was hoping to just do what was needed on the engine with the hope of doing a TDI conversion in a few years time.
Any other ideas in the Macc/south Manchester area welcomed.

Turns out that a garage I used to fix a snapped cam-belt on my Audi A6 a few years back got Croft to rebuild the engine for them. Ran sweet after the rebuild , so it seems they are good.
