Flywheel markings :(

Post by bmouthboyo »

Hi there,

My camper is fitted with a Golf Mk1 DX engine that I think uses the vans original gear box and flywheel?

The van (i think) was a 1.6 diesel, it is watercooled.

I am trying to check timing marks but the flywheel does not have the usual TDC punch and 6 degree BTDC that Mk1 flywheels have.

Any idea how I would go about finding 6 degree BTDC, and does this picture tell me anything about the flywheel? Any info on possible gear box ( 4 speed)?

Thanks

Thanks

The pict shows the top dead centre mark for a 1.6 diesel flywheel .Pointer should be centre to the V mark. The flywheel has been fitted to your engine you need the to find 6 degrees BTDC to this mark. You could fit a degrees marked gauge to one of the pulleys off the engine & set TDC on it with the V mark and pointer on the flywheel as seen in the pict.Mark off TDC on the degree marked gauge then turn the the engine to find 6 degrees BTDC .

Hi camper,

Thanks for the info about a 1.6 D gearbox. Does it have a code etc for future reference?

Also do you have a link to a suitable gauge that you mentioned? What pulley would it work from? The immediate?

Thanks
