injector pipe washer

Post by tattoojohnny »

I've got a diesel leak from the top of one of my injector pipes where it meets the injector. Can anybody tell me if theses are the washers I need?

If it's a JX motor (you haven't said)
There are no washers fitted between the injector and the pipe.
They seal by face to face pressure.

You could try nipping it up and see if it stops the leak.
Make sure that the is not coming from the cotton covered return tubes.

That washer that you linked to is the Heat Shield that sits on the cylinder head under the injector.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Silly of me not to add....it is a JX engine. Will nip it up and see how it goes.
Thanks again

I have a very small leak on between the injector and the casing. Is there a crush washer there or again does this just need nipping up?

You only need a flame trap if you have removed the injector.

The injectors may have been taken out by previous owner. New van to me. Do the flame tramps act a seal?

Yes the flame traps do act as a seal but more importantly they are a heat shield for the injector.
They are crush deformed when the injector is tightened up.

You are unlikely get a diesel leak from under them.

Diesel leaks are often due to the black cotton covered rubber return pipe weeping.
It goes porous with time.
The leaking diesel can track down the body and pool on the lips and edges of the injector or head.

You can get the piping from Brickwerks or VW (by the meter).

Thanks. I had a good look at the pipe and they seem fine. Does appear to be coming from the seal. They cost pennies so I have ordered them and will try them first. Thanks for the info.
