Fridge Repair
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know somewhere in the Wilts/Somerset/Dorset area that can recon my fridge? It's never worked on gas despite my efforts to fix it and I'd like to get it running before this summer so it can keep the beers chilled! (It would mean that everything would be working (briefly!) on my van too for the first time since I bought her 5 years ago!
Cheers,
Phil

Re: Fridge Repair
I would recommend ''Technical - Campers'' as a good place to start.

On the off-chance that you might actually want your question answered, rather than just telling how easy fixing a fridge is - somewhere that services caravans is probably your best bet. Maybe try here?

Re: Fridge Repair
Thanks for the advice - the thing won't light on gas at all - it has a good spark and you can smell gas when it's on. Also the little air pump works fine too. Had it all out and cleaned the combustion chamber last year, but still no joy.
It's a Electrolux Dometic RM182B
Works fine on the other 2 power supplies. So I think I'm going to bite the bullet and throw money at the problem.
Any more advice appreciated! Or if anyone has a second hand one they don't want or want to sell then I'd be interested!

Re: Fridge Repair
Does it light with a match?
Then stay lit?
Some times the spark will not track properly
and needs to be adjusted to spark over the burner.

Re: Fridge Repair
Bought a new igniter for mine - worked brilliantly for one weekend then the sparking noise went really quiet and it would not light. took it out and found that some of the insulation has dropped down from the pipes above and clogged the sparker so only getting a small spark.
A good clean helped

Re: Fridge Repair
Hi Kev,
How do you light it with a match? Do I need to remove it from the van first or is there a trick to doing it whilst in situ? I haven't managed to light it since last summer when it was out in the middle of the van but connected to the gas. As soon as I pushed it back into the recess it stopped working - I wonder if it's like Chris has said and blocked from behind as I changed the insulation while all of the innards were out for some welding last year?
Not sure how it being close in to the insulation would affect it though - surely the gas is a closed system?

Re: Fridge Repair
Alternatively, has anyone changed their original fridge for a newer model (in a Westy) - and managed to get the same door front on it so that it still remains original?

Re: Fridge Repair
I think you need to take it out and put it right, something has happend when it was refitted.
Test it once it's out.
Rather than spending money on another fridge just yet eh?

Re: Fridge Repair
Thanks mate, but it's the original fridge in an original untouched Westy so I hope all of the regulators are correct!

Re: Fridge Repair
Replace the gas jet, my fridge would not work on gas but it would light just wouldnt get cold, i removed the jet & cleaned it (it looked clean!) but it was still the same so in the end i bought a jet of the bay (about £26 i think) & it worked a treat.
