I've just fitted a different engine and am refitting the clutch slave cylinder. I have fitted a new clutch and bearing. Problem is the rod on the slave cylinder is extended (? taken up adjustment with the old clutch?) so I can't bolt it up.

Do I need to release some pressure in the system? If so where's best? Does the fluid reservoir in the instrument panel serve the brakes and the clutch?

I'm working out in the cold ( and it is cold today!) so if anybody could point me in the right direction and save me time lying on cold concrete I'd be really grateful.

As long as the clutch pedal is held up the slave cylinder rod should just push back......self adjusting.

Did this today on a petrol syncro. What a ball ache.
Who ever did it last must have lost the bolt and stuck one in there so long it almost touched the clutch fluid pipe, add to that it was all crusted up.
I could only get about an eighth of a turn before having to turn the spanner over. Scars to prove it.
What should have taken twenty minuets took two and a half hours.

always try to use new bolts , and well greased, just in case you need to remove them again.(tho you shouldnt)

rod should not need adjusting as previously said clutch self adjusts until its usless.

the petrol /diesel mount brackets are different so perhaps you have the wrong one!

if the pedal stops along its correct travel DO NOT force it , you should get full travel.
if it stops it will be hitting the stop and you have a problem . forcing it will damage the cylinder
