Starter motor removal

Post by Cherryboo »

Hi, is there an easy way to remove the starter motor on my 1.6 diesel?
I undid the starter but it wont come out due to another part being in the way.
Iv had a look on the Wiki but it says it may take 2 people to carry out the job!
Thanks

I used to remove the rear wheel on my old oil burner.I found it easier to get it off through the wheel arch..

once the two bolts are out gently pry the clutch slave bracket aside slightly and rotate the starter motor so the tang that sits between the gearbox and the slave bracket comes free and bob's your uncle :ok

you have undone it when you removed the bolts holding the starter motor, you are prying sideways slightly - if you need to you can remove the bolt holding the slave bracket support strut to the gearbox if it makes it easier, most mechanics wouldn't bother, they'd just use a bigger prybar
