So there it is, an uncommon wheel that is from a fairly common range of cars,
seems like I may be looking for a set of wheels instead of the matching one.
Hes not that far off as most 280SE's (relatively rare) came on 15" steels and some 300SE's came on steels as well. Early W126's up to '83 were on 14" rims running 205/70/14 tyres. Pretty well everything else was on alloys. A W202 wheel has the perfect ET offset!

Lloydy.. No worries! I looked online and seems you can get a "proper" Hi Lift plus your adapter for the money you mentioned.
Think that is the way I would go, and also I would upgrade to the best version while I was at it as it works as a clamp/spreader and as an occasional winch too, ..then also go for the wheel lift hole grabs...
So anyway I cant quite afford it yet, but I will wait because I think its worth it.
What I do is moving trailers around and making things so this bit of kit will be really useful.

Aha! Have I been on the wrong track, maybe I should be looking for a set of W202 wheels.

Although its five I want as its the spare thats bugging me.

ET37 are fine, ET31 are better for clearance on the upright, 37 are more common
I don't believe ET55 fit without spacers and still leave more than a knats nads clearance but I haven't tried or checked on others that have fitted them, but I've had the ET37 mercs in 15" with MTs and there was only 10-12mm clearance, mefros ET30 nearly 20mm clearance
So I can mess about looking for Merc wheels and not really be on the right track at all because for just that bit more I can order the set of Mefros at ET30 and I'm properly sorted, put my AT's on, keeping my old rims for a set of tractor tyres for those pools of mud. Do it right if its worth doing.

Yup! The Mefros are good and strong and better suited to the Syncro. The Merc wheels are fine and if you still want to go that way the W202 estate wheels are ideal as they are beefier than the saloon ones
the 6.5 15" et37 merc it a nice fit imo, and seem to be pretty common. I ran a set with 235/75 GG AT2 and had no problems other than rubbing on the front fender. It was a close fit tho, only a few mm clearance to the rear trailing arm and front upright but no rubbing there. That was a doka syncro, they are now on a syncro van and has no issues other than the front fender there either. never seen a ET31 merc steel for sale.

I have some ET31 mercs, work well.. lots of clearance.. have an ET 37 as the spare as yes, I have bent a 31..
If you can afford it, Mefro's all the way.. especially if offroading..
Jack.. Hi-lift (or similar) great.. but at home I use a long reach high lifting trollyjack (2 tone one out of machine mart) goes up a long way, lifts either end or side in one hit...
Axle stands.. I have the smaller cheap machine mart ones.. good and high enough to be able to work under.. but would like the taller ones...(at least at home)
