Who has a "Urkunde" from the Automuseum?
I know a few on here have bought a "Birth Certificate" from VW.
I think there is a problem with my Iltis one, and I just thought I would ask if everyone elses tallies up.
Under your seat you should have a "PKN", the plate where vehicle manufacture details are logged.
The structure should be something like this.
123 456 A1B2
01 2 3456
123 would be model type, 251 etc.
456 is the sub division of the model type
A1 would be colour
B2 would be trim
Then.
01 would be week number
2 would be day of week
3 unsure
456 consecutive number off the production line.
The dates from my PKN don't tally up to my Urkunde, ETKA doesn't tally up to PKN, just wondered if it was just me or I have misunderstood something or if VW use a different day of the week to start the week or something?

I have one and its incomplete in the sense that it doesnt have all the M codes listed but thats all as far as I know.

Oh you've made us all curious now.
Garage lights and torches are being switched on all over the country and seats being removed, I wonder how many people get most of the interior out before they find the right seat

Andrew how do you know it hasn't got all the m codes on it ? Does it differ from the white sticker info ?

I got one for my Tristar. Very disappointed, £30 for a piece of A4!!
Although did see that it was..... Built on the 5th July 89' & Left Factory for England on the 6th July 89'.
Which I thought was kind-of interesting after reading about SyncroPaddy's.

Well it doesnt have the M code for the spare wheel carrier or tow bar for a start. Ill go out and have a good look tomorrow

Bloke I'm buying a Swedish Doka off that needs UK registering just applied for the birth certificate for DVLA referencing. Hope all adds up there! Will inform him of said plaque!

the top line of the white sticker says
3804 06-7-6107 136 61
now I believe the 136 61 is the country code, in this case German market, UK is 210 EN I believe, so the 136 on the PKN is country code ?
so by Simon's decoding
week 6 Sunday (assuming Monday is 1) 6 (whatever that means) number 107 off the line - (Feb 14th 1988 ?)
255 is Caravelle LHD withM= M15 and 16 (ie 9 seater) with M298 whatever that is but I think maybe it's big sunroof , C=2.1 MV , 7=M299 syncro
x9x9 is sales term for flash metallic silver LP7Y, don't know why it's there twice, inside and out

now my chassis number puts it in middle of February 1988 so week 6 makes sense

has anyone seen any pics of syncro shells on the Hanover production line before they went to Austria, or was there a whole production line at Steyr like there's a T5 line in Poland these days; if the shells were built at Hanover then it went to Steyr for syncroing and was first registered in July - I have a theory the shells went on a train to Austria and went on one way and came of in the reverse order but have no way of proving or disproving that, theory based on some annomalies I've seen with chassis numbers on syncros. My understanding was the T3 line was moved to Austria summer of 1990 whilst the T4 line was installed at Hanover so that outstanding orders for T3 esp syncro could be met, South Africa was already building euro window T3 syncros for their market then using a mix of parts including the SA only rhd panels, but when they went over to the big window bus full production in 1995 they dropped the syncro - Russel will be able to advise better on the Uitenhage production

A lot of the M codes are bundled into the type number.
eg, 251 456 may include M1, M2, M3 etc..
Deciphering the type number will give you a few options listed, but a lot of the info is not public.
I should imagine big freet customers had their own "spec" which would be painted in their colours, and with certain options, I'm reasonably sure some of these big fleet customers would have their own type number.

Paint code twice is upper and lower colours, remember some earlier vans were different colours top and bottom from the factory.

that's what I said, except that as so many options were added (big sunroof , powersteering, electric mirrors and cloth upholstery ) it was factory badged as a CL, but it only has C spec sound deadening on the body

I use tdrie to decode the type, where did you get the info from ?
