I know this is the wrong place but I would like some advice urgently, does anyone know if I can fit the CS pump on the 1Y engine ? I cant get it started and I am going to have to move it in the next few days I know the CS pump was working but the 1Y has been standing for 2 years and it just won't fire up, thanks desperate of Hampshire.

Re: Diesel pump
The injection pump is very unlikely to have died while standing. Most likely it has just drained of fuel through minor leaks at the spindles or gaskets etc. So you'll have to prime the pump. There should be a nipple somewhere on the pump that you can slacken off and with a piece of plastic tube you can suck up fuel from the tank. Do this a few times so that the pump is FULL of fuel, then open the small bleed screws (positions vary) on the side of the pump and crank for a bit. Fuel should issue from the bleed screws. At this point all air should have been purged from the pump. Then slacken off the unions at the top of all four injectors, and with throttle wide open, crank the engine a bit. Fuel should eventualy squirt from the slackened unions. If it doesn't the pump ain't full of fuel. When fuel is squirting from at least three of the unions, tighten them all and crank again. Engine should start. Without priming the pump the starter or battery will usually give up the ghost before the engine starts!
If you fit the other pump, and that's a load of work, you'll have to do all this primimg stuff on that one too.........save the effort.
Use rags to stop squirting fuel getting on you and everything else, and be prepared for the engine to fire at any point.

1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Re: Diesel pump
and to guarantee a start, try to warm the air all a round the air filter inlet thoroughly and under the engine cover... dioesels like nothing better than WARM AIR INLET to get started - then colder to run best
