Swap twin Dellorto carbs for single weber

Post by mrtanz »

Hi all,
i have a 2.0L CU air cooled camper that i've not had long fitted with what i believe are twin dellorto carbs, the campers at my local garage and not running quite right and the hydrocarbons are high and won't pass an MOT test. The mechanic thinks it's the carb jets / (emulsion tubes?) that are the incorrect size for a t25 as he's stripped them down and cleaned them, adjusted them etc.
Now i havn't a clue about the mechanics of engines etc and my mechanic is no vw expert either.
I / we came up with an idea of swapping the dellorto's for a weber single centre carb with the fitting kit, i know from research on here the webers not highly thought of and the dellorto's are?? but i just want my camper to get through the test as simply as possible.
I will get some pics uploaded of the carbs i have fitted at the minute, i would be happy to swap the complete dellorto set up that has the short air filters to fit the t25 etc for the weber (bearing in mind the dellorto's need setting up / or jets changing etc)

Not sure this is a fair deal, or down right cheeky or a gift etc but i'll throw it out there and any advice on jets / offers of deals etc are gladly welcomed.

Many thank's Mark
p.s i'm in Derby

someone will be robbing you, take your van to a rolling road and get it set by someone who knows what they are doing, a decent mot place would be able to adjust your mixture to an mot pass at any rate.

dont take em off ffs. get em set its the way forward trust me.

your earlier posts say 1.6 ct motor, which is it?

if you google stateside tuning and contact jim, he can send you a base jetting set of jets out which wont be a million miles off

as jase said you should be able to get the van through an mot emmission test even with incorrect jetting as the mixture screws should be able to compensate for them at idle. the secondry circuit is another issue and if not right will be a disaster. could be wrong but it sounds like the mechanic is maybe not experianced enough with these carbs. swapping to a central carb will be a step backwards
