fuel tank expansion tanks?
I have just done a gti engine conversion from a jx, and my question is this: do i need those expansion tanks in the wheel arches or can i just plug the holes up in the top of the fuel tank that feed them? what's thier purposs? many thanx

Hello,
they are for levelling out the fuel either side of the dip in the fuel tank when filling. If you disconnect them you'll probably experience quite bad "splash-back" when filling up. Also - they have breathers attached to them which you also need.

because the tank has two high areas the vapour tanks are required to allow the vapour to move without being released to the atmosphere, petrol vapour being explosive in air at the correct ratio, also without them you will experience pressure variations within the tank which could result in fuel starvation at times and stress on the connections due to overpressure which could result in a line coming off with resultant loss of fuel and associated risk of fire

cool, cheers guys, i suppose i should stop being lazy and replace those hoses, will probably make them a little longer though, should make re-fitting alot easier
