Christmas in our bus Basil

Post by brickinit »

Hi all

Mrs B and I headed off Christmas eve towards Norfolk, as planned, but as she had to work that day we only went as far as Orchard Park near Boston because we know this site which has great facilities, room for the awning, and a pub within walking distance

The ground was frozen solid so we used a minimal amount of pegs and hoped the wind didn't get up too much (early sprout pun!) and we left the ground sheet in the back of the bus as we weren't planning to sit outside much either!

The three bird roast, courtesy of Aldi, did really well on the Cadac in about an hour and a half (we had a meat thermometer to avoid potential upset tummies which wouldn't be a good thing with another week to go in the bus!) and we did the other veggies and pigs in blankets in foil parcels after a walk to the pub for our traditional Christmas day drink!

No expense spared on the table settings and we were really pleased with how our first Christmas dinner in Basil turned out so maybe next time we'll go a little further afield

We spent the week going around the coast down as far as Lowestoft and cut back across to Lincolnshire where we celebrated New Year at a camp site in Ancaster only returning home on 2nd Jan as I had an interview to prepare for on the 4th otherwise we would have stayed out for the rest of that week too!

Well, I really wasn't expecting that to be; bodged, broken, leaking, lost, missing, mangled, rusty, rotten, stripped, siezed - pass the Stella and it'll all be better

That's pretty cool.

Do you have the roasting pan for your Cadac Safari Chef? If so where did you buy it from as I can't find one anywhere?

Thank you, and everyone else for the comments

Spot on, that is Run Cottage which we found a very nice little site despite our initial concerns about the ducks (well it was foggy and getting dark when we arrived!)

We had a great little oil radiator to keep the chill off and I'm sure there would be room for a dog each side, well Jack Russell size anyway!

We couldn't get a roasting pan for the Cadac as we'd left it a bit late in the year and no one had stock but we'd cooked chikens and a beef joint on it without one so we figured it would be OK

I'll order one from here in Spring when they are back in stock http://www.busyoutdoors.com/safari-chef-spares/c86

@ brickinit, We have a rule when using the van (Me my Mrs & Little un) if it doesnt fit in a wardrobe or cupboard in the van it stays at home... I hate having bags and stuff in the van having to be moved around, even behind the rear seat every time we want to eat, sleep and that includes not bothering with an awning etc. Give it a go, you have a high top too instead of our pop top so it should be eazy and see how much easier and enjoyable it is to camp in the van. My OCD couldnt cope with any clutter

Good to see pictures of you out and about

Hi Jed

I'm with you re stuff in the van but that was a bad example caused by Christmas over indulgence and being over cautious with the food / drink supplies stocking!

We also took an oil radiator for the first time and a small gas heater, plus 10 cartridges, in case we didn't have hook up available

Once we parked up, the pass seat was turned around and everything moved into the front footwells and after a few days of said over indulgence, there wasn't much to move!

Off to the Peaks this weekend with a very tidy van and no awning!
