Syncro TD Current Flow Diagram

Post by Chilla »

Would anyone happen to have a current flow diagram for the turbo diesel they could email me?

Have an issue with my water temperature gauge at the moment. Its been over-reading and would go straight to midway from cold and remain there?

Ive changed all 3 of the cyl head sensors and now it will go straight to midway and then rise to the top of the gauge when the engine gets warm (not hot)

As I understand things at the moment from the plastic outlet elbow nearest the injector pump, I have 2 sensors here.
1. Blue/thin white line is feed for the glow plug sensor?
2. Yellow/red is feed for the temperature gauge?

From the plastic elbow at the back of the head I have 1 sensor.
1. Brown/red feed which I understand is the sensor for the Aux water pump/turbo cooler?

Any ideas or corrections on the above appreciated.

You are correct on the colors.
Have you used original VW sender units in the cylinder head ?
If not i would as a lot of the after market ones dont have the correct resistance.

Thanks for the confirmation Russel

Senders from BW
Gen part- 251 919 369f plugged into single elbow for running the Aux water pump.
The other 2 "vemo" units on dual elbow running glow plugs and temp sender.

Any ideas?

What year is your van?
metal or plastic housings?
If metal then try running and extra earth to the housing.
If plastic then check the earths for the sender.
Also, pins in the plugs for the plastic housing'd vans can get pushed back into the connector, or clowns with multimeters bend them when faultfinding so they dont touch where they are meant to.
Wiggle the connector on the back of the dash.

1. 90 (H)
2. Plastic
3. Will check earths once again, I was thinking tho, if the earth was bad the gauge would remain low as the power through the thermo resistor is compromised by the bad earth?......or am I talking 541t
any one aware if its possible to buy new plugs for the sensors? I have cleaned mine with some white spirit but they do look like they've seen better days.
Cheers!

Aw shucks.. It's been on my webspace for years, from time to time someone needs it. I should really get my a*** in gear and scan/upload the rest, I have the complete set of T3 wiring diagrams 79->92 including options such as A/C and various regional oddities.

PS. I just added links to my first post to the two supplementary diagrams for a Syncro TD.

Very helpful Andy thanks again for the info-

Not sure if you noticed, the second link you gave (TD aux cooling pump) is included in the D/TD main diagram?

From what Ive found out today from my handy new wiring diagram, is that Ive got voodoo going on somewhere within the blue printed circuit foil ?

Where the 14 pin plug attaches to the foil, someones been at the foil with a soldering iron and bridged a burnt wire (red-clock i think). This bridge sits right next to the yellow/red (water temp gauge) which is over reading. I cant see that anything is actually shorting tho?

So anyone got a TD dash pod they want to sell ?
