Uk Fog Lights

Post by pierce »

When my westy originally came into the country, they fitted one of those aftermarket fog lights that sit next to the existing lights; its not working at the moment, so need to sort it out for the mot.

I would like to get rid of the extra fog light and replace it with a standard uk spec light with integrated foglight and a standard foglight switch on the dash (also need a new headlight switch as they only come on after switched on an off a few times).

Couple of questions;

Where is the best place to obtain the switches, can you get them new?
I think I have been told at some point, that mk1 golf switches are the same, is this true?
Is the job as simple as I am thinking; buy uk rear lights, buy switches, connect up; is the wireing loom the same, uk spec to german spec?

Thanks in advance

Try one of the breakers on here for switches, or I think W Heritage do them; pretty sure they are interchangeable with Mk1 Golf.

As for the rear fog light issue, you will need to get an offside rear lamp holder with the bulb contacts in, or make something up to modify your exisitng one. You may or may not have the reflector in the light cluster, have a look and if not you're going to need one of these too. There probably won't be a wire to the fog light on the offside either so you'll need to take an addional feed across to it.
What a long strange trip it's been

Cheers for the info , I wii have a look if the reflector is there, found a few new switches on ebay for a mk1 golf from volksbits so it should be ok.
