T25 Awnings?......

Hi, this is my first post having just purchased my first T25 Auto-Sleeper hightop a couple of weeks ago... love it!!

...I would like to buy a 'drive-away' awning and wondered if anyone has any recommendations or awnings to avoid! Having scoured the net (not in great depth) nothing jumps out at me so far....

Any advice gratefully received!

seriously....They Kyham awnings are fantastic for ease of use; but no good if you want something light & airy

you need to decide what you want out of an awning because all the different styles offer different benefits

I've been looking at the Navigator Kombi as it runs parallel to the van instead of at right angles - might be easier to squeeze into smaller pitches? Need an internal tent for little ones to sleep in............

Around £280 though - anyone seen anything similar but cheaper?

Another vote for Kyham.
Had several awnings over the years,(frame & tunel type)wish I'd brought a Kyham to start with!
Goes up quickly,very sturdy.Top marks!

...my initial thoughts are that I would like something along the lines of a more traditional caravan awning that opens at the front and has plenty of head room, something along the lines of the 'Royal Traveller 111 Tent Awning' .... but I'm also keen on the sleeping areas that the the Navigator Combi and the Kyham offer, oh the decisions!! They also look more modern in design and you would think there-fore lighter in weight in their construction (got to think if the mpgs at £1.30 a litre!)

I'd like the awning to be straight forward to disconnect / connect from the van - has anyone had much experience of 'drive-away' awning - are they easy to use?

any drive away awning is easy to disconnect connect. but what decides for me is ease to put up and stability

but you can always buy one 2nd hand have a go at what you like dont like, then flogg it on bay of fleas. and try another .

it's what you want from one that counts , as kev said what are you looking for to get out of your drive away ?

good point.... I think mainly we'd use it as an extension to the camper - roll up the front and sit out if the sun shines and also want it to be a nice place to shelter from the inevitable rain!

... sleeping pods are not a necessity ... I may be talking myself into the Royal Traveller 111!!

we have the royal traveller and are more than happy with it.The new ones are also a bit lighter than the older ones.

they are good in high winds . loads of room. like a little wendy house attatched to your van. BUT i found it too bulky to carry about, and a pain to put up, (but i am on me own?

You can get bedrooms for your khyam too . (gosh anyone would think i worked for khyam ere !) i want one , waiting for dirty girty to get fed up of hers

Weve just bought a Quechua Base seconds instead of a driveaway awning after hearing the views of VW and other campervan punters on another camping website.

It arrived last week and we pitched it in the dining room. Its fantastic and so easy to use, basically you throw it upo in the air and it pretty much sorts itself, well not far off anyway. Its the best bit of kit going. We'll use in the same way as a drive away awning. For example we dont really want to cook in the van as its nicer to do outside. So for 'proper' holidays we'll perhaps take a fold up camping kitchen unit with small cooker on top which we can move in and out of the Quechua. Maybe keep the cool box, clothing and chairs there too. For weekends away or for overnight stop offs en route somewhere the van on its own is fine and we wouldnt need the Quechua.

All of this is simply about comfort and convenience. The van can then be driven around for visits etc and everything is nicely set up in the Quechua when you get back, just like any tent or awning. It'll be a huge bonus to get to our destination and be completely sorted and set up in ten minutes flat, no hassle. We were going to get either the Khyam or the Just Kampers old skool awning. Im glad we didnt. The quechua is such a brilliant design and concept.


Decathlon are doing them for 50 quid which is about half price. We ordered ours over the phone from the Stockport branch.Theres a 'new' model out soon which im informed is the same tent in a different colour. So get yourself a bargain!
