Driving with a Trailer ... opinions please!

Post by Trilobyte_simon »

Hello,

I want to know if anyone out there with a T25 drives with a trailer?

How do you find ease of driving with one?

At the moment everytime we need to sleep overnight we have to unpack the van, pop the roof up then repack the stuff as best we can. The idea of a trailer carrying most of the stuff sounds appealing.

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

All comment most welcome!

Simon

We often tow a trailer tent with our T25. Barely notice the weight and it means we don't have to keep packing away / unpacking when we go off campsite during the day.

Main drawbacks are storing a trailer and reversing (just requires a bit of practice).

Tow a westfalia suitcase trailer behind the camper only problem is you can not see it in your mirrors or out the back window, fun when you got to back up

We towed a trailer for the first time in September with the bus. It was excellent for storing stuff in and worked really well when we toured, staying at Northampton and then onto a couple of sites in kent.

But I guess if we travelled light, we wouldn't need it at all. mmmmm, options, options, options.

I've towed a really old heavy trailer full of junk to the tip a few tips and it performed really well, i've also towed my boat and i could hardly feel that at all, still can't get used to reversing.

I tow an Erde 142 hardtop behind mine and have no probs with all the gear in. Only thing I did was put one of those prismatic windows in the rear window to make seeing the trailer easier..

You would'nt notice it towing it. The only disadvantage is the very small ones like HK said are not easy to see where the trailer is when you are reversing and if you stop off in a town is finding somehere to park. The other option is like M&T and I use a trailer tent and use it like an awning. I use a small Combi Camp like this which just pulls up.

That is exactly what we used, the combi camp is good because it makes a spacious trailer as well. The only thing we found that as we were on a grass pitch, the mud proved tobe a nightmare in the van. We are this year going to use it as a trailer to carry the awning and chairs etc, and use the combi camp as an awning if it's windy and a nightmare to put the awning up. Here is ours taken in September last year.

I towed one with my t25. A small erde one or whatever it was. It was good in it meant van was more tidy but tbh it just made me take more crap! It also meant I couldn't have my fiama bike rack down as it would have touched it going round corners!.... In the end I just invested in a small popup tent for when we weren't using the awning. This meant I had somewhere to chuck all the stuff not needed. It's proved really useful for short stays, esp as we had kids car seats etc with us.

We used to tow a small 4x3 Erde type trailer. As said before we just ended up taking more junk to justify dragging it along. Took it to 2 Dubfreezes, the worst part was travelling over 250 miles home and not being able to use the 3rd lane of the motorway. Too many idiots sit and hog the middle lane.
