Amp/hrs or cranking amps

Post by Dangermouse »

Now that i know it is my liesure battery that has gone kaput when i purchase a new one is it better more important to have as many amp/hrs as possible and not worry about the cranking amps as it is only the liesure side of things drawing power from it.

If it ain't doin' crankin' you don't need crankin' amps, so it's ampere hours you want. One other point though. Leisure bateries should ideally be "deep cycle" type batteries, that is to say you can run them dead flat without damaging them. Normal starting batteries are not "deep cycle" type. Having said that, the guy at my local battery centre says most people use ordinary car batteries and just make sure they're not left in deep discharge for too long.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

indeed colinthefox,
My auxilliary battery is a starter battery (code 096)
and like you inform us, as long as you look after it, it will suffice for weekend camping trips.

Any longer and you need a deep cycle battery.
