What is the closest match to marsala red please?

Post by nevill3 »

I am planning on touching up my camper for the summer, I would like to use the Rustoleum paint and lots of rollers as described on here.

(E D I T just to clarify, my better half has said I cannot say just touching up my campervan as it might imply some weird fetish, it doesn't.... honest )

My question is, which RAL code is closest to Marsala red (H3D). We like the colour and want to keep it if possible. this year will be just a quick patch and paint, because I need to do a complete brake overhaul and get a little welding done for her MOT, so no cash for a full paint job this year.

If anyone has used a close match to Marsala Red I will be most grateful for your advice.

I have noticed that the external colour doesn't quite match the internal panels, it seems a shade darker!! Also on the plate near the passenger door the one with the tyre pressures on a line of paint has been painted on it as if to say this is the colour used in a respray Image

(I forgot to mention it has obviously had a respray at some point in the past this is now peeling off in places and the roof is blistered quite badly) I hope to find a couple of cab doors to replace the ones that are currently on because they have rust holes in them (Skins would do but that would mean paying somebody to weld them on. If I can just get a couple of replacement doors I could do the work to strip the old locks etc so saving some money there)

Many thanks

Hi,

Rather than the hassle of trying to match, why not repaint the whole thing? You'll never get a perfect match and the whole van will probably look worse rather than better as it will be covered in different coloured patches....

Its really very easy, and very satisfying! I've rollered the lower half of mine, and found it was really quick to do a panel. Doing the top half this spring / summer. Its actually easier to do in large swathes.

If you do that to you won't need a respray next year, as the finish is excellent if you take you time and sand it all down well. It will also only cost you about £150 all in!

Cheers,

Alex

Thanks T25convert for the comment , I do plan to paint the whole van eventually and would like to do it myself. I do want to try and keep her Marsala Red. An exact match is impossible I know but as close as possible will do, I intend to treat the worst bits of rust, fill and paint her for this year, get the essential maintenance done then sort out the body work next year or maybe the year after!!!

I have just decided that she is for keeps and any parts will now be replaced with New where possible, the body work that needs doing is the usual places, Front panel behind the bumper, cab steps etc. so a good clean and a bit of filler for a couple of years will do the trick for now. So a close match for Marsala Red would be ideal to keep her looking tidy until the full paint job can be done. The welding that's needed for the MOT is near the seat belt mounting on the passenger side, so when this gets done I will want to paint the panel afterwards too.

Your local auto paints place should do you a fairly decent match.Somewhere like.

Thanks Rob, I would like to try and use one of the standard Rustoleum colours as shown in the colour chart in the wiki. There is a thread on here that says they used RAL3004 as a close match but it looks brown/Purple on my computer screen, I know that it would be wrong to judge using the screen colours, but BR WN!!!!

I would like to order a tin of paint but was just hoping somebody else had some more advice before I ordered it.

The outside paint will of weathered a lot more than the inside.Hence the different shade..

I have noticed that the external colour doesn't quite match the internal panels, it seems a shade darker!
