Hi
My garage has informed me that it was the turbocharger falling to bits that caused me to break down recently and cause a lot of noise. When they checked for a replacement using the engine number, it is clear that the engine is originally a non aspirated engine, meaning that someone in the past had added the turbo (and manifold obviously). My dilemma is do i spend approx £500-600 replacing the turbo or do i replace the manifold and exhaust system and leave the turbo out?? probably cheaper option because i cant imagine the turbo giving the engine that much more performance.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

If I were you I would look at a 1.9TD Golf engine conversion. You could pick up a 1994 Golf/seat ibeza tdi for £4-500 and drive it home as donor vehicle. I had a 1.6d non turbo and performance was grim.
if it aint broken dont fix it
