Re: major bus problems... replacing 1.6L with a 2.0L
Hello again I've finally got my beloved T25 back with a reconditioned 2.0l engine and she is like a new van, drives beautifully! Obviously the work has taken months and months because there have been some big obstacles, the biggest being acquiring the 2.0l in the first place, but at last we're back on the road. It's true that if you cannot do the work yourself then find a mechanic that you trust and make them your best friend! Thanks for your words of encouragement I'll post a picture when the sun comes out tomorrow, which i'm sure it will!

Can you feel a big difference in performance? Its hard to imagine as i have only ever driven the 2.0 litre. I can't imagine anything slower!!

you can absolutely tell the difference, especially on the hills. Bit worried about how economical the engine will be though. Because the tinware is all custom bodged there is a big gap around the engine which i will need to seal somehow because its probably still taking a lot of the power away.

Yeah mine isn't amazing to be honest lol. Sitting at 56mph seems to make a massive difference compared to sitting at 65 though. Get that tinware sorted though, keep her cool, and she'll do you proud.
Me and the Mrs went away in ours last year, we went from here-belgium-luxembourg-strasbourg-blackforest(germany)-interlaken and all the way home again and it never skipped a beat the whole way. 2700 miles in total in two weeks and all we lost was a sidelight bulb lol.
I dont care what people say about em, if its looked after you should have no trouble!!
All the best

Thats generally the 'sweet spot' or these vans with this engine in, any more and it eats fuel and starts to cook the engine
It is by will alone that I set my 'van' in motion!

That's the sweet spot on my GMC Vandura... Just push it into overdrive, back the throttle off to almost tickover, just before the autobox shifts down, engage cruise control, and get just a hair over 20mpg. If you cruise at 70, you are looking at 12-14mpg. Play with the loud pedal (and what a bellow that V8 has! Makes me wet in a boys place!) and you are looking at 8mpg. Gotta say though, I have never, ever sat in anything more pleasant and comfortable on a long distance cruise. Captains Seats like leather arm chairs, the nice gentle burble of an underworked V8 at low revs, very soft suspension, if I could afford to run it, it would be my camper and daily!

Re: major bus problems... replacing 1.6L with a 2.0L
you fitted the 2.0 dk code gearbox
you need the seal around the engine and good fitting tinware
if any of the above are NOT true ,then start saving for your new engine now and make sure you have breakdown cover

That tin ware is crucial.
Neglect it and you'll have a useless lump of alloy in the back of your bus soon

Re: major bus problems... replacing 1.6L with a 2.0L
why is the tinware so crucial?
i have a piece missing in mine and didnt think it would do any harm other than cool down the engine abit, im obviously very wrong,
oh just to be sure by tinwear you do mean the casing stuff that goes underneath and around the engine?

Oh deary deary me... Go and give yourself a good talking to!
Air is a very inefficient medium for cooling things, that's why most engines use water. Engines run very hot, and you need a HUGE amount of air flowing to keep them cool, if there is something missing from the tinwear, exhaust heat can rise into the engine bay, the amount of air flowing becomes less as it's escaping, the engine oil gets hotter, the exhaust heat is recirculated which makes the problem worse, eventually th oil cooks and no longer lubricates your engine, and you will either have vastly accelerated engine wear leading to a rather sudden catastrphic failure.
