Hi, i've asked similar question before but can't quite get my head around a couple things. My van has got a split charge relay, which i know charges both batteries.
I would also like something that charges both or just leisure battery on main hook up, is there anything compatible you can use with the split charge relay? I know the westy i had had a BBB, don't know if it had a split charge relay?
Or is there a complete unit that can take power from altenator or mains power to charge batteries? I had a zig unit which did this, not very well i know.
Any links to wiring diagrams, chargers that fit what i want would be appreciated.
Thanks, Lloyd

Re: leisure battery charging
I hard wired Lidl battery charger in place of the BBB as it was fooked. They only put out around 4amps so if you a high demand then eventually the battery would go flat and you would be running directly off the charger. We don't have a very high power demand and to be honest it isn't really needed. We never stay anywhere for more than a couple of days so the split charger (90amp Alternator) and large solar panel fixed to the roof keep the leisure battery topped up.
I can't see that you will need anything more that a battery charger wired directly to the leisure battery for topping up if you stay on a campsite for a few days or more.

Re: leisure battery charging
Is your new charger wired to the leisure battery as well as the split charger? That's really what i'm trying to find out, can you run a mains charger to the leisure battery and have your normal split charger wired in as normal.ninja.turtle007 wrote:I hard wired Lidl battery charger in place of the BBB as it was fooked. Re: leisure battery charging
Split charger is there as it was before and the battery charge is wired to the battery via an inline fuse. It is my understanding that the split charge needs a signal from the blue wire on the alternator for it to close.
So yes they are both wired to the battery as well as the regulator for the solar panels.
Still looking for a syncro although not that actively as I now have 3 vans on my drive and am running out of room. Still if the right one comes along then I will snap it up.
