Help Fan running in engine bay when ignition off

Post by seeker »

Hi
Can anyone tell me what the electric fan sound is that is coming from the engine bay after I've switched off. Sometimes it does and sometimes it does'nt. I thought it would be thermostatic, but it stays on forever. I started up again and drove a while, and it did'nt do it the next time. Any advice? Bruce

There is a fan behind the rear left light cluster on syncros which blows air across the turbo (as long as the ducting is still there) once the engine is turned off.

It is supposed to be thermostatically controlled, however lots seem to end up connected incorrectly, most often with a 'Temp sender' rather than the 'Temp switch' that they should have. Another symptom of this can be that the Glowplug light stays on for longer than it should (about 20secs if i remember correctly).

I'll try and find the post that gives the part numbers for the switches and senders ....

could it be the Radiator/coolant fan?
Does it stay on for ever - or just quite a while - it's fairly normal for a fan to run still when the ignition is off - I think... at least until the thermostat gets cool and switches it off

Noise is coming from the engine bay, so unlikely to be the radiator fan i reckon

Here's the post that should sort you out: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... r#p7352736
