Sliding Door Middle Track

Post by Devon81 »

Hi Couldnt close the sliding door today, it was jammed half way, managed to get the side cover off and get it closed, the track has rotted through in the middle along with the body underneath, can you get a new lenght of track anywhere for this, i can repair the body but need the track.

Hi Ian. Sorry to hear about your problem

The part I think you are referring to is obsolete in the UK. However you can get it from VW in Germany via VW-Classicparts for 51.30 euros+vat (delivery is usually 8 euros)

Firstly tell me if this is what you need? I think you need part number 9 on the diagram linked below (252843871A Left meaning nearside on a RHD van)

http://autopartmaster.com/imgbank/cat/v ... t=D6F03EC7

If so read the wiki article on how to order through classic parts of germany it's easy

https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/Pa ... Germany.29

PS. I am assuming your van is RHD. If it's LHD then that track is still available from VW (251843872A) priced £39.87+vat

Hi I couldnt see the end of the track by the door opening at the time, i was in more of a panic to get the door shut, the bus is a 81 Devon, so i take it that this track was changed and modified on the newer T25's.

Yep yours is the early one for definate , dont know whereabouts you are? but a local firm to here have just chopped a side out for a friend and the runner is still on the van, doubt it would be more than 20 max, you only need to drill the spotwelds out and repair the backing (you said it was ,er poorly?) then weld the replacement on , dead easy job,
If the backing didnt need doing then very easy to weld a quick repair bit to the rail for temp/'read long term' use
any chanco of a picky

If it needs welding, Malcolm Rookes (Wivenhoe) might be your best bet. That man can sew vehicles together. Well liked and respected in the area.

Alternatively you could go and have a chat with Frank at Frank's Bus Parts (Walton) as he knows everyone and can advise you.

My vans early so I've no idea what the runner looks like on a late van. it stands to reason they are different as the runner bearings are not the same

Hi
i have know got a track attached to a nice section of body panel to fit to my van now( courtesey of Billy739), the inner panel behind the track panel was also rotten, so i am going to attempt to cut the whole lot out and weld in the new section, i was just after a bit of advise, ie any pitfalls in doing this.

Thanks Ian

Make 100% sure its at the right height, tack and try the door.
also I would advise letting it in as opposed to welding the donor panal on top or under the existing if you follow as this will c ause closure problems and be liable to catch somewhere along the line.
