Rear Window washer

Post by richard17777 »

Hi,
I am in the process of stripping down my hightop for an over hall and respray. While I have it in bits I was looking to put in a heated rear window and wiper mechanism (which I have bought). It just dawned on me that I may need a rear window washer to accompany this. Does anyone have any info on such things? If one is needed where would I find one or would i just need to take one out of any vehicle at a scrap yard and mount it in the engine bay? Would prefer to stay original if possible.
Cheers,
Richard

I'd go scrappy route for the bottle and pump; new for the hose, jet and rubbery bit that goes between the top of the tailgate and the van itself.

Piccy of bottle in situ

and pic of bottle removed - unfortunately you can't see the actual pump which is fitted to the base of the bottle

should give you an idea of what you're looking at...

Thank you very much for that! Most helpful. Couple of things spring to mind... what vehicle did you take that water bottle unit from as it looks like an ideal size and secondly as you have a RHD are you able to easily top up the bottle from inside the cupboard?

Ours is also a Komet although it’s an 83 and the interior has a lot of ware. Will be going through it top to bottom over the next year. Yours looks in fantastic condition, has it had a recent recondition? If so I’d be very grateful to hear of anyone you recommend for the interior – particularly someone who can tart up the cupboard units etc as that’s where ours disappoints.
Thanks again,
Richard

I didn't take the water bottle from anywhere - it came with the van and was standard for the year of manufacture as far as I know. Easy(ish) to fill with a small funnel but very rarely needs it as it's not used anywhere near as much as the front washer.

The furniture in my van is about the only part of the van that hasn't been touched - it's been re-carpeted, re-trimmed, re-upholstered and re-sprayed but the cupboards are still original. As far as tarting up the cupboards goes, I'd put a seperate post in 'Campers' as some folk on here are into their wood and would be far better placed to advise you.
