head /block testing on t25

Post by milky »

are there any problems using a head test kit on our vans ,like does the expansion bottle need to be higher than the radiator ,like on ramps at the back,or do you just use a piece of pipe off the blue cap ? do you test from cold or when warming up or at running temperature ? just want to do it right first time, cheers chaps

1.6 td jx,the kit works on any watercooled engine,it uses a blue fluid that changes colour when in contact with co2(exhaust gasses),i'm crap at piccys but if you go on youtube and look in combustion gas leak tester, this is the idea .its how with our vans having the headertank lower than the radiator ,it would not work properly as you need an air pocket in the headertank

right then ,raised rear end ,made sure header was highest point ,run up to temp taking out coolant as it rose, left a decent air pocket ,used kit ,it showed that there was no head leak, put coolant back in ,turned engine off topped up coolant
